I have just been contacted by Andy Monaghan of Worcester Wargames. Along with a number of Military and Historical Re-enactment groups, he will be putting on an event on February 17th 2018 at the Guildhall in Worcester. They would be delighted if clubs and societies (or even individuals) in the area could put on historical display and/or participation games. Tables could be set up on the Friday afternoon ready for all day gaming (approx 9.30am to 4.00pm) on the Saturday. Access is available to the car park behind the Guildhall so that people can deliver figures/terrain and there will be free parking in Crowngate on the Saturday for participants. This could be a fantastic opportunity to promote the club at a well established and advertised event or, at the very least, get a free all day game in 😊 Please reply to this thread if you might be interested – at the moment they just need an idea of numbers so that insurance can be sorted.
First of all 'Hello' to Andy Monaghan of Worcester Wargames who has I think joined the forum.
Welcome aboard Andy M - I will call you Andy M as we have a lot of Andy's in the group!
We will certainly come and do at least 1 game. Hopefully we can do more but that will very much depend on who can make it on the day. Given the geographic spread and numbers of us I would guess we are talking 5 to 10 people coming, 15 tops.
Andy PGT: Are you planning on doing something? Are Wyvern doing anything? I am thinking here we will try to avoid doing the same thing.
Andy M: Do you know the size of the available tables? Are you expecting more groups - the Friends of Haig for example?
My initial thought is that we should try to put at least 1 participation game on and then 'recycle' some of the various demo games we have done recently. But we will need at least 2 people per game to run it so how many we can do will depend on who can come.
Tom: I was thinking that you might like to do a participation game as the only one the club has done recently at a show is Steampunk and not historic. So I was thinking that you might like to run the Gunfighting or the Swashbuckling or anything similar. I would guess a smaller version than at the club for a quick 'all action' game. Hopefully you and your better half could do this, but possibly we could get you someone else to help.
If you don't fancy that then basically just choose whatever you fancy & do that. As you suggest we can chat about what but shall we put you down for 1 game, type to be decided later?
Graham: The other option for a participation game is your WW2 mini game. If you are available could you run this? On your own?
Everyone else: For the other games we would run historical games we have run recently. The visitors are going to be the general public rather than gamers so the key thing is for it to look nice. Also go for stuff well known to the general public, if possible.
I am thinking we can run again games we already have. So Matthew's Mons Grapius game, Neil/Bryan's Chain of Command game and potentially the 28mm League of Augsburg game we will run at Alumwell in 2018. We could also do Harry's ancient game or Paul's Modern Africa game but I guess as replacements for Mons Grapius or Chain of Command if we can't do them. This is to spread the range of games. Similarly if we can't do the League of Augsburg game then we can do some other 'Horse and Musket' game.
If we have enough people we could run some others games but we can worry about that once we have more of an idea who will come.
If we do Tom's game, Graham's game and 3 demo games we will need at least 9 people, obviously including the ones whose game it is.

Hi all, Andy M from Worcester War Games here. Great to see you all very keen to get involved. We have the entire hall to fill so space should not be an issue. If you can let me know what size space you'll need for each game you want to run I can start making up a floor plan of who will be where around the room. We have plans to run some "not so historical games" too. Dead Man's Hand, All Quiet on the Martian Front and TANKS. Along with Bolt Action (28mm and 15mm) and FoW.
Andy M: Yes we are happy to do this and will try to do as many games as we can. Indeed some of us were at a similar event in Leicester and said at the time it would be good to have the same thing here. It might take a while to get back to you with details of what tables we want, etc, but we will be there. From what you say we will certainly concentrate on 'historical' stuff and also perhaps try to minimise WW2 as you have some of that. We do all historical eras so it makes sense to do something else.
Andy PGT: OK. If Chris can't make it but you can borrow his figures, etc, then you could still run the game and one of us would help - i.e. if you can provide the stuff we can provide a 'body' to help, I would certainly be happy to help.
Graham: OK good
Bearing on mind we already have 3 WW2 games (Graham's and 2 from Andy M) I guess drop doing the Chain of Command game.
Neil/Bryan you could run a 10mm Napoleonic game instead?
Other possibles that spring to mind are Gordon (and Steve if he can come or with someone else if not) running a Battle of Worcester 1651 game - i.e. a generic ECW game using your English & Scots?
1: Graham running WW2 2: Gordon running ECW or Neil running Napoleonic/SYW 3: Tom running whatever he fancies - a participation game if he fancies it or whatever else he likes that people will recognise.
The rest of us will help running these as seems appropriate.
We have our first meeting on Sunday (21st Jan) since we learnt about this event so it has been impossible to organise much as yet. You got in touch just after our November meeting and nothing much happens in December/over Xmas until now. We only meet once a month.
We can send more details after the 21st but I guess if we take two of the 12 by 4 we can fill them. This will probably be an English Civil War game, a Napoleonic game, a WW2 game and another participation game - probably either Western gunfighting or Three Musketeers. If one of the games falls through we have loads of stuff to put on other games if needed but we are trying to pick 'good' ones to do.
